Ombudsperson
Message from the Student Ombudsperson
Dear students of Escola Universitária Vasco da Gama,
Higher Education, in all its dimensions, presents a series of challenges but also a vast array of opportunities. EUVG is, above all, its people, as well as its city, its society, and its times.
It was EUVG that shaped me into the Veterinary Doctor I am today. And what a pride it is to say that! The memories of my student years, with all their ups and downs, are still fresh. Yet I already have a sense of nostalgia for those times. And now, as an Academic Staff member, I feel delighted to accept the invitation of becoming the Student Ombudsperson. And what a challenge this is!
The Student Ombudsperson is not an administrative, binding, or disciplinary body, nor does it override any other governing body. However, its existence is of great importance, playing a particularly relevant role in today’s society.
This office aims to serve as a link within the academic community, particularly between EUVG students and their professors, non-teaching staff, academic bodies, and management and administrative directors. Through this channel, we aim to make communication easier, with impartiality and rigor, ensuring that students’ needs and concerns are defended.
I have therefore decided to reach out to you in this more personal approach. I am, and will always be, available to listen to you and to help. It is in my best interest, as well as in everyone’s, to give you a stronger voice.
Share your proposals, ideas, concerns, or any other information with me, individually or collectively. All matters will be handled with neutrality, fairness, and professionalism so that recommendations can be addressed to the governing bodies, with a guaranteed answer. Confidentiality will be ensured in all processes, should you wish so.
With your support, we can build stronger bridges, resolve conflicts, turn individual challenges into opportunities, and advocate for your interests and rights.
Whatever I can do to help you, count on me!
Ana Luísa Pereira

Mandate: 10/09/2024 – 31/08/2026

According to Article 9, No. 1 of the EUVG Statutes and in accordance with the Legal Framework for Higher Education Institutions, the mission of the Student Ombudsperson is to ensure compliance with students’ rights in their relations with EUVG, as established by law, statutes, and regulations.
Thus, when the Ombudsperson becomes aware of a situation that may jeopardize the rights or legitimate interests of students—whether through their direct communication or any other reasonably credible means— they must seek ways to protect these rights through mediation and informal negotiation with the parties involved.
The Student Ombudsperson is responsible for recommending possible changes, based on individual or collective student communications or even on their own initiative, with the aim of improving the services provided by EUVG and its Founding Entity.
In carrying out their duties, the Student Ombudsperson does not hold administrative, decision-making, executive, or disciplinary powers, and their intervention does not suspend any ongoing deadlines.
The Student Ombudsperson thus serves as a structure that, in addition to raising students’ awareness of their right to receive a high-quality, efficient, and respectful service—encouraging them to actively participate in improving this service with personal commitment and critical thinking—must also alert academic structures as a whole to situations that require correction or change.
