EUVG Attends A3ES Seminar on the Future of Quality in Higher Education

On June 16th, the Thalia Theatre in Lisbon hosted the seminar “Guiding Principles for the Development and Improvement of Internal Quality Assurance Systems in Higher Education Institutions,” organized by the Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES). Our institution participated in the event, represented by the President of the EUVG Board of Directors, Prof. Dr. Ferdinando Freitas, and the Coordinator of the Quality Assurance Office, Master Tiago Carvalho.

The opening session was led by the President of the Management Board of A3ES, Professor João Sàágua, PhD, and the Secretary of State for Higher Education, Professor Cláudia Sarrico, PhD, who highlighted the strategic importance of quality in developing the national academic ecosystem. Throughout the morning, discussion panels addressed the evolution of Internal Quality Assurance Systems (SIGQ).

There was also a round-table discussion dedicated to the topic “SIGQ as living instruments of institutional governance: from compliance to continuous improvement.” Featuring a broad representation of the sector—including CRUP, CCISP, APESP, and student representation through FAIRe Portugal—the panel debated the challenges and opportunities for a culture of quality to add real value to the daily lives of students, faculty, and staff.
