Professor Ana Luísa Pereira and a group of four EUVG students recently completed specialised training in Conservation Medicine, with a focus on anesthesiology in African wildlife, in South Africa. The programme provided hands-on experience in the capture and restraint of wild animals in their natural habitat, combining advanced professional training with close contact with the country’s remarkable biodiversity and rich cultural heritage, further strengthening their expertise in this specialised field.
At the end of the programme, they shared their experience with us:
“This experience gave us the opportunity to practise wildlife capture and restraint techniques. It was a real challenge working with these species—some of them truly iconic—which we had previously encountered only in captivity and, now, in their natural habitat.
In a country of extraordinary cultural richness, we also had the chance to visit world-renowned sites, admire breathtaking landscapes that only Africa can offer, and immerse ourselves in the local culture alongside new friends.
Our heartfelt thanks to the entire teams at Sable Creek Safari Lodge and Korwe Lodge for the unforgettable experiences they made possible. This was the first of many trips!
