The number of domestic cats has been steadily increasing over the last few years, now greatly exceeding the pet dog population in many households.

Feline Medicine has therefore become essential for the health and well being of cats, which often present symptoms and clinical characteristics that differ significantly from those of dogs.

Early detection of conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and renal disease can be the key to successful treatment and the patient’s overall longevity.

Carolina Bento

Postgraduate course "Diagnostic Avian and Exotic Animals Pathology" from Utrecht University (Netherlands) in 2012. Postgraduate degree in Small Animal Ultrasound (Improve International) in 2021. PhD in Veterinary Sciences in 2023 from FMV-ULisboa. She has worked in companion animal practice since 2012 and has been part of the clinical team at Vetcondeixa since 2016. Gonçalo Petrucci

DVM, MSc, PhD Master in Veterinary Medicine from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Lusófona University in 2014. Member of the clinical team at Onevet Hospital Veterinário do Porto (HVP) and currently responsible for the oncology service at HVP. In 2019, he conducted oncology consultations at OneVet Hospital Veterinário Berna in Lisbon. PhD in Veterinary Sciences from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro in 2022, with a research project in the field of feline mammary cancer. Author of several national and international publications in the field of Oncology. Assistant Professor at Escola Universitária Vasco da Gama in Coimbra since 2021, teaching the Companion Animal Clinic curricular units.

Maria Montserrat Rivera del Alamo

DVM, PhD, Diplomate of the European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR) Degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1997. PhD in Veterinary Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2003. Diplomate in Animal Reproduction by the European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR) in 2009, specializing in small animal reproduction. AVEPA-accredited in the field of animal reproduction. Researcher and lecturer at the Autonomous University of Barcelona for 15 years in the field of companion animal reproduction. Author of more than 50 articles in indexed international journals, as well as a contributor to several books.

Francesca del Baldo

Gregory K. Ogilvie

Diplomate ACVIM (Specialties of Internal Medicine, Oncology), ECVIM-CA (Oncology) - California Veterinary Specialists Angel Care Cancer Center

Dr. Gregory Ogilvie is a veterinary oncologist, professor, and internationally recognized expert in companion animal cancer care, with a special focus on feline oncology and quality of life in cancer patients. He is Program Director at the University of California San Diego and Director of the Angel Care Cancer Center at California Veterinary Specialists.

Board-certified in internal medicine and oncology, Dr. Ogilvie has held academic and clinical leadership positions at leading institutions, including Colorado State University, Tufts University, and the University of Illinois. He is the author and co-author of several books and more than 200 scientific publications, and has received numerous international awards for his contributions to veterinary oncology, research, and teaching. Widely regarded as a leading voice in the field, he lectures internationally to veterinarians, students, and scientists around the world.

Jessica M. Quimby

DVM, PhD, DACVIM Associate Professor - Small Animal Internal Medicine - Veterinary Medical Center: The Ohio State University Dr. Quimby is board certified in small animal internal medicine and completed a PhD studying feline CKD and was on faculty at Colorado State University until 2017. She is now a professor of small animal internal medicine at the Ohio State University. Current research areas include the study of renal pathophysiology, novel treatment strategies and evidence-based supportive care strategies. She has an interest in feline clinical pharmacology focusing on improving supportive care and quality of life in cats with CKD. Dr. Quimby has received the International Renal Interest Society Award and the AVMF/Winn Feline Foundation Research Award for her contributions to nephrology and feline medicine. In 2021 she was selected to serve on the IRIS board.

Petra Černá

ACVIM and ECVIM diplomate in Small Animal Internal Medicine as well as ABVP (Feline) diplomate and RCVS Recognized specialist in Feline Medicine. She graduated from the University of Veterinary Sciences in the Czech Republic in 2018 where she also obtained her first PhD in 2023. She completed Small Animal Internal Medicine Residency at Colorado State University, USA in 2023 and her second PhD focusing on feline infectious peritonitis in 2025. She has particular interest in feline medicine and is focusing her research on feline infectious diseases and especially FIP and is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia.

Pilar Xifra

Graduated with a degree in Veterinary Medicine from Complutense University of Madrid in 1994, Dr. Pilar Xifra has developed a special interest in feline medicine, endocrinology, and diagnostic imaging, from the beginning of her career. Founded Clínica Veterinaria Leganés Norte in 1998, where much of her clinical work was carried out. In 2015, began a project focused on the treatment of feline hyperthyroidism with radioactive iodine. To this end, completed several training externships with Dr. Mark E. Peterson, with whom continues to collaborate on clinical studies and scientific publications. In 2016, founded IODOCAT, becoming the first center in Spain specialized in this treatment. Regular speaker at conferences and an author of publications in national and international journals and books. Member of AMVAC, AVEPA, GEMFE, and the ISFM.

The Postgraduate Program in Small Animals Internal Medicine at Vasco da Gama University provides graduate professionals with advanced training in the development of specific theoretical and practical skills in the field of Internal Medicine for companion animals. This Lifelong Continuing Education (FCLV) programme allows for the improvement of clinical practice in Internal Medicine for companion animals and its updates.
