The scientific community of Vasco da Gama University School (EUVG) stood out at the latest edition of the Animal and Veterinary Workshop, held on October 16th at the Noble Hall of ICBAS (Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences) in Porto. Organized within the framework of the Doctoral Programs in Agricultural and Food Sciences and Veterinary Sciences, the event brought together researchers and students from across the country to share and debate the latest scientific advances in the field.
CIVG Researcher Wins Best Poster Award
The highlight of the institution’s participation was the Best Poster Award presented to researcher Alexandre Pereira. The winning study focused on the expansion and comparative analysis of dental pulp stem cells in humans and dogs—an innovative investigation that contributes to the advancement of regenerative medicine and reinforces the excellence of the research conducted at the school.
Strong and Diverse Presence in Veterinary Research
In addition to this distinction, EUVG and CIVG (Vasco da Gama Research Center) maintained a strong presence at the scientific forum with presentations spanning key areas of veterinary medicine.
In oncology, lecturer and researcher Marta Monteiro presented a study on PD-L1 protein expression in canine mammary tumors, while in reproduction, lecturer and researcher Sara Amaral shared her research on the impact of processing methods on stallion semen quality and longevity.
The clinical and wildlife tracks were also well represented: lecturer and researcher Gonçalo Ramalho addressed the pathophysiology of osteoarthritis and new therapeutic options, while lecturer and researcher José Eduardo Gomes presented data on the molecular detection of intestinal parasites (Cryptosporidium spp. and Giardia duodenalis) in wild carnivores in Portugal.
Commitment to Science
This prominent participation and the recognition achieved demonstrate the vitality of research at EUVG and the dedication of CIVG faculty and researchers to generating impactful scientific knowledge. EUVG congratulates all participating researchers, with special recognition to Alexandre Pereira for his well-deserved award!
