In the ongoing pursuit of more efficient, accessible, and environmentally friendly public transportation solutions, Vasco da Gama University School (Escola Universitária Vasco da Gama – EUVG) initiated talks with Coimbra City Council. This dialogue has led to enhanced accessibility and improved planning of public transport routes to our campus.
The overall improvement and integration of the network with the city’s other mobility solutions will culminate in early Q2 2027.
Commitment to Sustainability
As part of our continuous commitment to sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint, we encourage the entire academic community (students, faculty, and staff) to prioritize the use of public transportation whenever possible. Choosing public transit means actively contributing to a city with less traffic, lower environmental impact, and a better quality of life.
Connections to EUVG Campus (Lordemão Area)
Under this plan, Coimbra City Council has shared a map featuring SMTUC network connections serving the Lordemão area, ensuring easy access to key points across the city:
- Downtown, Santa Apolónia, and Northern Hubs (Routes 30 & 30T): Connections to Downtown Coimbra (Baixa), the Santa Apolónia commercial area, and the Retail Park, as well as close proximity to main transport hubs connecting to the Metro Mondego, CP (national rail), Rede Expressos, and FlixBus.
- Central Corridor & Academic Residences (Route 27): Direct connection to the city center, the hospital district, and student residences on Rua António José de Almeida.
- City Center & Healthcare (Routes 19, 19A, 19T, & 19R – from the Lordemão Chapel): Access to Downtown, local commerce, Praça da República, University Dining Halls, the Coimbra Academic Association (AAC), Coimbra University Hospitals (HUC), and Hospital da Luz.
- Commercial Area / Alma Shopping (Route 24T – Lordemão Pharmacy stop): Direct connection to Alma Shopping and the main urban corridor.
Transfers and Intermodal Integration
The network has been designed to facilitate intermodality. From central hubs—such as Praça da República, Rua do Padrão / Coimbra-B, and Fernão de Magalhães / Beira Rio—it is easy to transfer to reach other areas of the city (Fórum Coimbra, University Stadium, Pediatric Hospital, CUF, Polo I, and Polo II) or to connect with medium- and long-distance transport options (Train, Express Buses, and Metro Mondego).
