Two faculty members and researchers from Escola Universitária Vasco da Gama (EUVG) — José Pimenta and Rita Caseiro — were distinguished at the International Congress of the Associação Portuguesa de Médicos Veterinários de Equinos (APMVE), held in Coimbra on 28–29 November 2025.
At the event, both presented scientific work in the field of equine medicine. Their contributions received notable recognition:
Third Best Poster Award — for the poster titled “Retrospective Study of the Efficacy of Episcleral Cyclosporine (CsA) Implants in Immune‑Mediated Keratitis in Equines,” a study conducted in collaboration with veterinary ophthalmologists Tanguy Hermange and Jean Michel Casamatta and linked to the master’s thesis work of former EUVG student Emma Bruneel.
Best Oral Presentation & Scientific Innovation Awards — both awarded to José Pimenta for his oral presentation “Evaluation of COX‑2 and MMP‑9 as Limiters of anti‑PD‑L1 Immunotherapy in Equine Melanomas”, a work exploring how COX‑2 and MMP‑9 may influence the effectiveness of immunotherapy treatments in equine patients.
These honours underscore EUVG’s commitment to scientific excellence and cutting‑edge research in equine medicine.
